On September 19, this year's general meeting of the James Loeb Society took place in Murnau.
Despite corona-related restrictions (adherence to a hygiene concept with masks and distance), we were able to welcome almost 20 members.
At the suggestion of a member, one item was added to the agenda: awarding honorary membership to the founder and long-time chairman of the board, Dr. Hermann Mayer. This proposal was accepted unanimously.
This year again the election of the board after three years was also on the agenda. Dr. Hermann Mayer did not stand for election after almost 10 years. With a bouquet of flowers and long applause, he was thanked for his work and his tireless commitment to the James Loeb Society.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Söder was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the Executive Board. In his inaugural address, he outlined his vision of the future tasks and goals of the James Loeb Society. In addition to the established projects, such as the annual Loeb Lecture, the biennial Loeb Conference, the acceptance of two Fellows each year - always in cooperation with our partners, the Central Institute for Art History and the Harward Club - a new project "Summer School" is to be added. This is also a project that was very close to Hermann Mayer's heart and is now being implemented.
In the following discussion, besides the financial report, the future obligations of the Society were of course in the center of attention.
Thanks were also expressed to Mrs. Christa Mayer, who has worked for the Society with untiring zeal. She was thanked with a bouquet of flowers for the many hours of preparation and organization within the framework of the James Loeb Society.
Traditionally, the meeting was concluded with a joint lunch in a cozy atmosphere.
